Insieme Wines 2017 Sangiovese was aged for 34 months in older and neutral oak for an approximate 65% new oak equivalent. This wine is unfined and unfiltered to preserve maximum phenolic composition. It has a bright Brick Red color that is fairly concentrated. The bouquet opens with aromas of figs, tomato leaf and a hint or roasted pepper. The modest regimen of oak adds a hint of smoke. The mouthfeel is dry, medium+ viscosity with ample but smooth tannins and bright palate cleansing acidity. The palate opens to a mouthful of tart cherry layered with prune and hints of oregano. With a little time, it opens up to softer red fruit with a touch of herbs and clay. The finish is dry carried by the bright acidity and the light regimen of oak allows the beautiful hint of crushed flowers and rose petals to show through (a somewhat typical characteristic of this Italian varietal).
